Community Development Department
The Community Development Department includes the Building and Zoning, Planning, Economic Development, and Property Standards Divisions and provides "one-stop-shopping" for the Village's development needs. Staff members work to assure buildings are safe by reviewing plans, preparing permits for new construction and renovations, and enforcing maintenance standards.

The Community Development Department also oversees zoning, promote long-range planning and economic development, administer Community Development Block Grant projects, and provide staff support to the Appearance Commission, Consumer Affairs Commission, Plan Commission, Temporary Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.

The Village of Skokie has partnered with the Regional Transportation Authority and an OKW Architects-led team to prepare a Dempster Station Area Plan to create a circulation, land use, parking, and development vision for the area's future.
Please visit the official Dempster Station Area Plan website to provide location-specific comments with an interactive mapping tool. Comment categories include community asset, development priority site, problematic intersection, public safety concern, undesirable use, desired use/development, poor appearance, and "other".

Skokie Celebrates Chicagoland Car-Free Day
The Chicagoland Car-Free Day celebrates the idea of a less car-dependent future on September 22, 2011. Skokie is investing in this type of future by constructing a new CTA Yellow Line Oakton Station in Downtown Skokie, and planning for and constructing new multi-use paths.
