2018 Village Construction Projects

Residential Street Resurfacing
Timetable: April-August

The Village will resurface over five miles of residential streets at various locations throughout the Village.

CDBG High Priority Patching
Timetable: September

The Village will utilize Community Development Block Grant funds to perform full-width patching of eligible streets.

Water Main Rehabilitation
Timetable: April-July

Water mains in two areas will be replaced this year. The first area is Sherwin Avenue between Niles Center Road and Frontage Road. The second area includes water mains on Kedvale Avenue, Karlov Avenue and Keystone Avenue all between Emerson Street and Golf Road. Several valves and sewer repairs are included with this project.

Sewer Improvements
Timetable: Various Sewer lining repairs throughout the Village will resume this summer.

The Village also has an annual sewer cleaning program which improves sewer flow and identifies future needs.

Alley Improvements
Timetable: April-August

Every year the Village takes previously oiled alleys and replaces them with pavement.

Sidewalk Improvement Project
Timetable: September-November

This maintenance program replaces broken sections of sidewalk. Concrete street patching and the replacement of broken curb are included with this project. The main area of work will be between Dempster Street and Main Street.

Traffic Signal Improvements
Timetable: June-August

A new traffic signal at Golf Road and Knox Avenue will be constructed to help traffic at the hospital. A signal upgrade at Oakton Street and Austin Avenue is currently being designed.

Green Infrastructure
Timetable: April-May

The Village will be making green infrastructure improvements to help with water management during rain events.

Morton Grove/ Niles Water Commission Transmission Main
Timetable: 2018

A large water transmission main will be constructed through the northern section of the Village. This work will include the restoration of over four miles of residential streets. For project information visit http://mg-n-wc.org/.

IDOT Street Resurfacing
Timetable: Summer

IDOT has two projects scheduled for 2018. These include Howard Street (Lehigh Avenue to New Gross Point Road) and Touhy Avenue (Village Crossing entrance to Skokie Boulevard).

2017 Completed Construction Projects

Residential Street Resurfacing
Resurfacing of over seven miles of residential streets within the Village was completed.

Water Main Improvements
Water mains on Fargo Avenue between Crawford Avenue and Hamlin Avenue and Chase Avenue between Hamlin Avenue and Central Park Avenue were replaced. Several valves and sewer repairs were also included with this project.

Sewer Rehabilitation
Sewer lining repairs and sewer point repairs were completed throughout the Village. The Village also has an annual sewer cleaning program which improves sewer flow and identifies future needs.

East Howard Street Multi-Use Path
A new path was installed along the north side of Howard Street between Hamlin Street and McCormick Boulevard. This will connect to the Sculpture Park Trail to the east.

West Old Orchard Road Multi-Use Path
A new path was constructed along the south side of Old Orchard Road between Harms Road and Woods Drive. This will connect the Forest Preserve Trail on the west and a future path on the east.

Sidewalk Improvement Project
This maintenance program replaces broken sections of sidewalk. Concrete street patching and the replacement of broken curb are included with this project. Work is focused on the area between Main Street and Oakton Street. New Sidewalk Project The Village connects missing links of sidewalk where sidewalk dead ends or a gap between sidewalks exists. This past year, work focused around Laramie Park.

High-Priority Patching Program
This project repaired large bituminous patches and berms throughout the Village.

NICOR
Installation of new residential gas mains and services in the area bounded by Gross Point Road to Skokie Boulevard and Dempster Street to Church Street.
