2012 Village Construction Projects

Downtown Skokie Swift Station
Construction of the CTA Yellow Line Oakton Station in Downtown Skokie is complete and opened on April 30, 2012.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Old Orchard Road: Roadway Reconstruction Project
Timetable: 2012
Work will begin early this year on the underground utilities portion of this project. When completed, the improvements for this reconstructed intersection will include an eastbound right turn lane, northbound dual left turn lanes and traffic signal modernization and infrastructure upgrades.

Swift Station Area Improvements
Timetable: 2012
A new Kiss-and-Ride lot adjacent to the new station and a waiting lot north of Searle Parkway will be constructed this spring. Other upcoming improvements include the completion of the streetscape along Skokie Boulevard, pedestrian and transit improvements and landscaping.
Residential Street Resurfacing
Timetable: May-July, August-October
Resurfacing of several miles of residential streets at various locations throughout the Village. This will be done in two projects.
Community Development Block Grant Resurfacing
Timetable: August-October
Resurfacing of several street sections north of Oakton Street and east of Skokie Boulevard in CDBG eligible areas. An oiled alley within the CDBG area will also be resurfaced.
Sewer Rehabilitation
Timetable: January-March
Sewer lining repairs on Oakton Street between Long Avenue and LaCrosse Avenue will be completed early this year. Another project will focus on sewer point repairs throughout the Village.
Water Main Improvements
Timetable: February-March, September-October
Water main replacement on Old Orchard Road from Lawler Avenue to Bronx Avenue. A second project will replace water main on Carpenter Road between Touhy Avenue and Pratt Avenue.
Sidewalk Improvement Project
Timetable: May-June
This maintenance program replaces broken sections of sidewalk. Concrete street patching and the replacement of broken curb is included with this project.
High-Priority Patching Program
Timetable: September
This project repairs large bituminous patches and berms throughout the Village.
Skokie Multi-Use Path: Oakton Street to Dempster Street
Timetable: April-May
A new bituminous path will be constructed on the existing railroad ballast connecting Oakton Street to Dempster Street. Landscaping improvements are also included with this project.
Illinois Department of Transportation
Completion of work at a number of signals along Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard and on Golf Road and the Church St./Gross Point Rd./Skokie Blvd. traffic signal. Crawford Avenue from Golf Road to Gross Point Road will also be resurfaced.
Nicor Gas Main Replacement
The area bounded by Central Park Avenue, Main Street, McCormick Boulevard and Dempster Street will have gas mains replaced by Nicor this summer.
MWRD Sewer Improvements
A sewer, force main along Howard Street at the MWRD northside plant and then traveling south through the Channel Park adjacent to McCormick Boulevard will be replaced this summer.
2011 Completed Construction Projects:
Skokie Boulevard Streetscaping
Skokie Boulevard received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to help pay for the enhancement of Skokie Boulevard parkway between Oakton Street and Washington Street. Improvements included new street lighting and streetscaping improvements.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Golf Road: Roadway Reconstruction Project
Intersection work was completed this past spring.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Searle Parkway
A new traffic signal was installed at this intersection. Additional improvements include a southbound right turn lane and a northbound left turn lane, intersection radii improvements and resurfacing.
Non-Arterial Street Resurfacing
Resurfacing of three miles of residential streets at various locations throughout the Village.
Community Development Block Grant Resurfacing
Resurfacing of 0.5 miles of CDBG eligible streets, south of Oakton Street.
Sidewalk Improvement Project
This maintenance program replaced over 12,000 square feet of broken sections of sidewalk
High-Priority Patching Program
This project repaired 78 large bituminous patches and 9 berms throughout the Village.
Downtown Skokie Swift Station
The majority of construction at the new station for the CTA Yellow Line at Oakton Street has been completed.
